A mixed squad of Nant, Teirw and Youth players took part in the Sanbach Rugby Festival last weekend (16 August). They played four 30 minute games of full on rugby on a hot and sunny afternoon.
The first game was against Cleckheaton who compete in the Regional 1 North East League in England. The first 15 minutes saw both teams sizing each other up. Nant then opened the scoring and proceeded to score at regular intervals, eventually running in five tries.
The second game was against Sandal from the same North East league. This was a tougher game and Sandal took the lead. Nant rallied and soon equalised and though they put a lot of pressure on their opponents, they were unable to get a winning try, the game finishing in a draw.
Third up was Bowden. Bowden were Regional 2 North West Champions last season. Though they were camped in Nant’s 22 for much of the game they were unable to break the defence and Nant ran in 3 tries to take the game.
The final game was against hosts, Sandbach. Nant were victorious in this game also, running in 4 tries to 1.
A great and successful afternoon with 3 victories, one draw and only two tries conceded.
