Pwllheli 2nds 12 – 31 Nant Conwy 3rds

In a cup tie defined as much by unforeseen circumstances as by the action on the pitch, Nant Conwy 3rds have advanced to the semi-finals of the North Wales Division 3 Cup. Despite being only their third outing of the season, Nant Conwy established a commanding lead over Pwllheli 2nds before a local power failure forced an early abandonment. Following unsuccessful attempts to reschedule, the fixture was officially awarded to Nant Conwy.

Nant Conwy initiated the scoring early through Gwydion Ellis-Jones, with Bedo Jones adding the conversion to make it 0–7. The opening period remained competitive as Pwllheli responded with a converted try of their own to level the scores at 7–7.

Nant regained the lead when Bedo Jones crossed the line and converted his own try, but Pwllheli stayed within reach via a second, unconverted score to bring the tally to 12–14. Just before the interval, Dylan Roberts secured Nant’s third try. Another successful Jones conversion sent the visitors into the break with a 12–21 advantage.

Nant Conwy emerged for the second half with increased intensity. Bedo Jones extended the lead with a well-struck penalty, followed shortly by a try from Morgan Dafydd. Jones’s consistent form from the tee brought the scoreline to a decisive gap before a sudden power cut plunged the ground into darkness.

Despite a lack of recent match fitness, Nant Conwy showed clinical execution in the final third. The kicking of Bedo Jones proved vital, maintaining a perfect or near-perfect conversion rate that kept Pwllheli at arm’s length.

The home side showed flashes of brilliance in the first half, twice pulling themselves back into contention, but they struggled to contain Nant’s multi-phase attacks early in the second period.

While the abandonment deprived the fans of a full 80-minute contest, the governing bodies determined that a replay was not feasible within the tournament schedule. Given their significant lead at the time of the power failure, Nant Conwy 3rds were awarded the victory.

They now progress to the semi-final, where they will face either Bala 2nds or Bangor.
