Nant Conwy 55 – 7 Bethesda

Ar ôl y gȇm llawn tensiwn wythnos diwethaf yn erbyn Caernarfon, yr oedd Nant Conwy yr wythnos hon yn wynebu gwrthwynebwyr eithaf anhysbys wrth iddynt wynebu Bethesda am y tro cyntaf y tymor hwn.a hynny’n Pant Carw. Gan fod y gêm wedi cael ei gohirio’n gynharach, roedd y ddwy ochr eleni’n cyfarfod am y tro cyntaf. Er gwaethaf safle Bethesda yn y tabl, mae’u canlyniadau’n dangos bod Bethesda wedi bod yn hynod anlwcus, gyda llawer o’u colledion gydag ond un neu ddwy sgôr o whaniaeth.

Daeth yn amlwg ei bod yn gêm rhystredig na fyddai’n ymddangos fel un a fuasai’n tanio am y rhan fwyaf o’r amser. Yn aml, roedd symudiadau addawol yn dod i ben yn sydyn oherwydd pasio afreolus neu rhai a ollyngwyd, ond yn amlach na pheidio, oherwydd cosbau.

Serch hynny, cafwyd deg cais, naw ohonynt gan Nant Conwy. Nid yw hyn yn adlewyrchu’r gêm yn ei chyfanrwydd gan mai Bethesda oedd gyda mwyafrif y meddiant a’r tiroedd. Yr hyn y mae’n ei adlewyrchu yw gallu Nant i greu rhywbeth o ddim a’r cyflymder wrth gwblhau symudiadau ymosodol.

Cafodd Nant eu cais cyntaf o fewn dau funud o gychwyn y gêm. Cafodd cic glirio ei basio i Gruff Roberts ac, o’i 22 ei hun, llwyddodd i fynd drwy amddiffyn Bethesda i sgorio. Daeth ceisiadau pellach gan Josh Williams, a sgoriodd er gwaethaf sawl taclwr yn dal gafael arno, a rhediad clir gan Sion Pringle, i gyd o fewn y chwarter cychwynnol yn rhoi Nant ar y blaen 19 – 0.

Efallai bod pethau wedi edrych yn ddybryd ar y cam hwn ond fel y daeth i’r amlwg, am y rhan fwyaf o weddill o’r hanner bu’n| perthyn i Bethesda. Cadwodd hwy Nant yn eu hanner eu hunain ac roeddent yn gwneud popeth heblaw sgorio. Yn y pen draw, daeth y torri drwodd drwy gic ymlaen ar hyd y llawr. Rhoddodd y trosiad sgôr hanner amser o 19 – 7.

Dechreuodd yr ail hanner gyda Nant yn edrych yn fwy penderfynol. Roedd symudiad ar hyd y linell wedi gorfodi amddiffynfa’r gwrthwynebwyr i ‘ddilyn cysgodion’ ond unwaith eto roedd camlawio’r bêl wedi arwain at gyfle a gollwyd.

Nid oedd yn hir cyn i Nant sicrhau’r bwynt bonws. O sgrym 5 metr, cafodd y bêl ei hailgylchu a gorfododd Brenig Hughes ei ffordd dros y llinell. Rhoddodd trydydd trosiad Davies sgôr o 26 – 7.

Er bod y rhan fwyaf o’r gêm yn cael ei chwarae yn hanner Nant, cafwyd pum cais arall. Toriad o’i 22 ei hun gan Rhys Cernyw i linell 10 metr y gwrthwynebwyr a wnaeth iddo gyfleu’r bȇl i Deian Roberts a enillodd y ras i’r gornel.

Gyda 15 munud i fynd, pasio agos iawn o linell allan ar linell y hanner a roddodd gyfle i Brychan Dafydd sgorio yn y gornel chwith.

Yna, cafodd Josh Williams ei ail gais wrth gymryd pas fewnol yn di;yn toriad allan o 22 Nant.

Toriad arall o ddyfnder eu hanner eu hunain welodd y bêl wedi’i chicio i’r gofod tu ôl i amddiffyn Bethesda. Er iddi ymddangos eu bod wedi’i gorchuddio, rasiodd Gruff Roberts drwyddo i gipio’r bêl oedd yn bownsio a rhoi pas sgorio mewnol i Sion Pringle.

Cyrhaeddodd y cais olaf pan fu i Deian Roberts neidio’n uchaf i gymryd cic ‘i fyny ag odani’ ar y linell hanner. Yna fe ddihangodd o sawl ymgais am dacl cyn ennill y ras i sgorio yn y gornel chwith.

Gyda Davies wedi ychwanegu 5 trosiad yn gyfanswm, daeth y sgôr olaf yn 55 – 7 i Nant.

Bydd Nant yn wynebu Llangefni ar nos Iau, 12fed Mawrth yn Llangefni gyda’r gic gyntaf am 7.30 o’r gloch.

 After last week’s tense clash with Caernarfon, Nant Conwy were this week up against an unknown quantity when they faced Bethesda at Pant Carw. As the game was called off earlier, these two were meeting for the first time this season. Despite Bethesda’s position in the table, results show that Bethesda have been extremely unlucky, many of their losses being by one or two scores.

It turned out to be a frustrating game that seldom seemed to get going. Promising moves often came to  a grinding halt due to misplaced or dropped passes, but more otften than not, due to penalties.

Nevertheless, ten tries were scored, nine by Nant Conwy. This doesn’t truly reflect the game as a whole as Bethesda probably had the majority of the possession and territory. What it does reflect is Nant’s ability to create something from nothing and the speed in executing attacking moves.

Nant got their first try within two minutes of the kick-off. A clearing kick was passed to Gruff Roberts who, from his own 22, veered his way through the Bethesda defence for the score. Further tries came from Josh Williams, who scored despite several tacklers holding on to him, and a clear run in by Sion Pringle, all within the opening quarter gave Nant a 19 – 0 lead.

Things might have been looking ominous at this stage but as it turned out, the rest of the half belonged to Bethesda. They kept Nant pinned in their own half and doing everything but score. Eventually, the breakthrough came through a grubber kick. The conversion gave the half time score of 19 – 7.

The second half started with Nant looking more determined. A sweeping move had the opposition defence chasing shadows but again a handling error resulted in a missed opportunity.

It was not long before Nant secured the bonus point. From a 5 metre scrum the ball was recycled and Brenig Hughes forced his way over. Davies’s third conversion gave a score of 26 – 7.

Despite much of the remainder of the game being played in the Nant half, a further five tries were scored. A break from his own 22 by Rhys Cernyw to the opposition 10 metre line saw him offload to Deian Roberts who won the sprint to the corner.

With 15 minutes to go, close inter-passing from a line-out on the halfway line saw Brychan Dafydd score in the left corner.

Josh Williams then got his second, taking an inside pass following a break from the Nant 22.

Another break from deep within there own half saw the ball kicked into space behind the Bethesda defence. Though it appeared to be covered, Gruff Roberts sprinted through to snatch the bouncing ball and give an inside scoring pass to Sion Pringle.

The final try came when Deian Roberts jumped highest to take an up and under on the halfway line. He then evaded several attempted tackles before winning the race to score in the left corner.

With Davies having added 5 conversions in total the final score read 55 – 7 for Nant.

Nant now face Llangefni on 12 March at Llangefni.

ar sail wirfoddol, sy’n helpu i wneud y clwb yn llwyddiannus fel ag y mae heddiw.

Neil and Paul are both stalwarts at Clwb Rygbi Nant Conwy. Between them they have held various posts
within the club over the years. It is thanks to members such as these, giving so much of their time on a
voluntary basis, that helps make the club the success it is today
