League: Adran 1 Cwpan Cenedlaethol
Pwllheli v Nant Conwy National Division 1 Cup
Y tro diwethaf i Nant Conwy golli i un o’u cystadleuwyr o Ogledd Cymru oedd yn nhymor 2022/23 pan gawsant eu curo’n agos yn rowndiau cnocio allan Cwpan Adran 1 Gogledd Cymru. Roedd hi’n noson eithaf gwyntog, gwlyb a stormus. Dydd Sadwrn, mewn amodau tebyg, cawsant eu gorchfygu’n y Gwpan Genedlaethol Adrannau 1, gan yr un tîm a’u curodd y noson honno – Pwllheli.
Unwaith eto, roedd yn gêm agos, fel y bu gemau rhwng y ddwy ochr hyn yn ddiweddar.
Roedd y gêm yn eithaf gyfartal i ddechrau, ond, wrth chwarae gyda’r gwynt, dechreuodd Pwllheli ddominyddu’r tir a’r meddiant. Yn anochel, dechreuodd Nant ildio ciciau cosb, ond hefyd gamgymeriadau dwylo heb eu gorfodi. Gan fanteisio ar y gwynt, dewisodd y tîm cartref fwrw’n bennaf at y nôd a sefydlwyd arweiniad o 6 – 0. Collwyd cyfle i’w gwneud yn naw ychydig cyn hanner amser, ond roedd Nant wedyn wedi eu gorfodi i amddiffyn ger eu llinell. Ymddengys iddynt lwyddo i gadw’r sgôr hanner amser i’r chwe phwynt hynny, ond, wrth geisio rhedeg y bêl allan o’r amddiffyn, bu iddynt osod eu hunain dan bwysau. Cafodd y gic glirio olaf ei gwrthsefyll ac aeth y chwe phwynt yn 13.
Yn yr ail hanner, gyda’r gwynt yn eu cefnau, gwelwyd Nant yn dechrau dominyddu’n fwy tirfeddol, ond dim ond cic gosb gan Caron Davies oedd i ddangos am eu hymdrechion. Roedd hyn yn ganlyniad i amddiffyn cadarn gan y tîm cartref ond hefyd i gamgymeriadau dal gafael ar y bȇl gan Nant.
Gydag ychydig llai na deng munud i fynd, gostyngodd Nant y diffyg pellach drwy dri phwynt ychwanegol gan Davies. Roedd y 7 neu 8 munud olaf yn gweld ymosodiad ar ôl ymosodiad gan Nant, ond er popeth, gwelodd amddiffyn penderfynol Pwllheli nhw trwy’r gêm, gan ddod â llawer o lawenydd i gefnogwyr y tîm cartref.
The last time Nant Conwy lost to one of their North Wales rivals was in the 2022/23 season when they were narrowly defeated in the North Wales Divsion 1 Cup knock-out rounds. It was on a very windy, wet and stormy evening. On Saturday, in similar conditions, they were beaten in the National Division 1 Cup, by the same team who beat them that night – Pwllheli.
Again, it was a close game, as matches between these two sides have been recently.
The match was quite even to begin with, but, playing with the wind Pwllheli began to dominate territory and possession. Inevitably, Nant began to concede penalties, but also, unforced handling errors. Taking advantage of the wind, the home team opted to mainly kick for goal and established a 6 – 0 lead. A chance to make it nine just before half-time was missed but Nant were then forced to defend near their line. They looked to have succeeded in keeping the half-time score to those six points, but, in trying to run the ball out of defence, put themselves under pressure. The eventual clearance kick was charged down and the six points became 13.
The second half, with the wind behind them, saw Nant begin to dominate more territorially, but had only a penalty by Caron Davies to show for their efforts. This was a result of firm defending by the home team but also Nant’s handling errors.
With a little under ten minutes left Nant reduced the deficit by a further three points. The last 7 or 8 minutes saw attack after attack by Nant but despite everything determined defending by Pwllheli saw them through, much to the delight of the home supporters.
